Midwest Rampage 6 Final Results

The scores have been posed and I'm glad to say that my finish has exceeded my expectations.  Knowing the quality of players that frequent MWR6 and given that I had no practice games with the new book I was just hoping for a top 15 finish at the start of the weekend.  With the weekend over I now set my sights on the next tournament and look to continue by my good run.

Favorite Podcast Phrases - Bits and Bobs

As I listen to a fair amount of Warhammer Fantasy Podcasts (ok I listen to all of them) I've grown to love the expressions that some of the guys are using.  I figured I would share some of my favorites with definitions/origins provided by The Phrase Finder.

 

BITS AND BOBS:  Used to refer to pocket change, specifically coins.  "Bit" (three-penny bit or six-penny bit) and "Bob" (shilling or twelve pence).  The phrase has now lost its association with coins. Bits and bobs are useful, even necessary, things. This is all together different than Odds and ends, which are usually leftovers.

 

The boys on HeelanHammer use it when referencing the various pieces that make up the army.  To be fair, Dan uses it just about anywhere he can squeeze it in.

 

Favorite Podcast Phrases - Done and Dusted

As I listen to a fair amount of Warhammer Fantasy Podcasts (ok I listen to all of them) I've grown to love the expressions that some of the guys are using.  I figured I would share some of my favorites with definitions/origins provided by The Phrase Finder.

 

DONE AND DUSTED:  Refers to something being complete or finished.  When documents were signed in times past using pens dipped in ink, drying time could be considerable as the application of the ink varied so much. To speed things up an absorbent dust was sprinkled on the fresh writing, left momentarily, and then tipped off the sheet, allowing the document to be rolled or folded there and then, and carried off. Thus, a deal was considered finalized when it was "done and dusted".  

 

Commonly used by the Bad Dice Podcast boys to indicate that a project (model/army), episode or discussion is complete or concluded.

SWINGS AND ROUNDABOUTS:  : The whole saying is "what you lose on the swings, you gain on the roundabouts". It's originally a saying of fairground folk, and it means that a loss in one field [selling tickets for the swings] is balanced by profit in another [selling tickets for the roundabouts]. An early citation is "What's lost upon the roundabouts we pulls up on the swings" from a novel by P Chalmers, "Green Days & Blue Days", published 1912.

 

My take is that this phrase is a way to convey that in Warhammer (especially in 8th edition) the different areas of the game balance themselves out.  Sort of ying and yang or rock, paper, scissors.  For example the counter to large units can be the number 6 spells.
